Everything Is Connected! A Buddhist View To Meditation!

In the hectic world that people live in today, many are stressed out after a hard day's work. Some even get so tired that they lose their energy completely that they lose interest in activities that are considered to be pleasurable, such as sex. Imagine yourself living your life like this every day and just imagine that by living this kind of life, you won't even have the time or the energy for your family and friends. Stress can definitely ruin your social life.

Many people today aren’t really depending on technology to get them that extra bit of energy that they need. But, they did look for it in the past. Meditation is one of the methods that are constantly growing in popularity amongst people today. You have to consider that meditation, particularly Buddhist meditation, has existed for centuries, and up until today, this Buddhist technique has proven itself to be very effective. In fact, Buddhist monks still exist today where the majority of them live in Europe while others are situated in Europe, the United States, and other parts of the world.
If you ever met a Buddhist monk, you might have noticed how they’re radiating fearlessness and compassion. They seem to be completely in tune with their surroundings. How did they get there? Well, a big part of the answer is that they regularly contemplate the fact that everything is connected.

People who do Buddhist meditation have been found to work more efficiently and have that somewhat "extra glow" or that extra energy. They do work as if it's nothing and Buddhist meditation practitioners have testified that they are happy doing work.

Buddhist meditation's main goal is to get to the path of Enlightenment. Mental development and mind over the body are also considered to be one of the goals of Buddhist meditation. You have to consider that the body is controlled by the mind and because of this, Buddhist meditation practitioners have claimed that in order for your body to function properly, you have to get rid of the negative energy inside your mind by meditating.

A lot of people have claimed that through Buddhist meditation methods, they were able to live a life happier and have reduced any negative thoughts that can affect their daily life. They also said that they don't get angry too often even if they get stuck in a long traffic jam or when their boss gives them a hard time. They said that all they do to get rid of anger is to do some of the Buddhist meditations they learned in Buddhist meditation schools.

Even scientists and medical practitioners alike were baffled by the effects of Buddhist meditation. Their patients who do Buddhist meditation are healthier and they also recover quickly from illnesses. Although there is still no significant scientific proof about the effectiveness of Buddhist meditation, you have to consider that there are quite a lot of people who are testifying about the effectiveness of Buddhist meditation.

So, if you are looking for enlightenment or you at least want to know how to handle stress effectively, you should try Buddhist meditation.

In the Western world, people tend to view the world as being full of separated entities. A table, for example, is just a table, having nothing to do with the “non-table world”. A Buddhist, however, might have a completely different view here. After all, this one table came out of the world it’s surrounded by. Without the tree it’s made of, the sun and rain that nourished this tree, the carpenter who shaped it, the toolmaker who built the carpenter’s saw, and even the carpenter’s parents, this particular table wouldn’t exist. All of these tiny contributions are inherent to this table. And that makes it a shining example of how everything in the world is interdependent.

This isn’t only true for a piece of furniture, but for everything else in this universe, including yourself. As separate as you might seem from the universe, you’re actually one with it. True Buddhists are trying to see this intricate web of interdependence that is life. This is easier said than done, because humans, if not practicing mindfulness, tend to fall into a trap Buddhists call “the false view of self.”

When we attach ourselves to this false view of self, we shut ourselves off from our surroundings and the people around us. We narrow our view and think of ourselves as a separate being, which is a source of anxiety and suffering.

So what can we do to overcome this narrow view and the consequential suffering? Well, we should make it a habit to meditate on the fact of interdependency on a regular basis. This doesn’t necessarily entail sitting down and pondering the universe, we can also do so in everyday situations.

Here’s a little example. As part of a Buddhist charity, Hanh regularly translated letters of orphans asking for sponsorship into English. Before doing so, he would take a moment to take a deep look into the eyes of the child in the photograph, examining her face, trying to get an understanding of this child’s fate and struggles. This way he forges a deep connection with the child. He doesn’t discern between himself and a child that needs his help; rather, he realizes that the child and he are connected. With this in mind, he starts translating with a little more compassion and mindfulness.
